" The ease of installation and the speed at which I could get up and going was the most impressive part of the experience. All I wanted to do was begin capturing months old data. It was not long before I found myself producing a simple Income Statement.
In setting up Omni Accounting I was not bothered with tons of compulsory data fields; I was able to enter these later as I grew accustomed to the package.
It is so convenient to be able scrutinize a long outstanding debtor account and by simply double clicking on my figure have the source document portrayed before my eyes.
So many accounting packages are caught up in procedures like batch updates and month ends. I found it a relief to find that if I just got the date right, OMNI did the rest…….instantly.
Then the best of all, where have you heard of transactions falling into the future, current and past time period. Omni keeps full control of such data capture… like a 3rd dimension to Windows software. No need for the Sales Dept to wait while Admin Dept goes through the month end roll overs.
I enjoyed the customisable screen appearances that I could set to suit my preferences as well as the simplicity of the pull don menus for quick retrieval of information. As my requirements of the package increased… the more I could enable the ADD-ON features to satisfy the diverse needs of the organization.
Furthermore, the thoroughness of the professional backup support team leaves me with a feeling of having made a worthwhile investment. "

" Omni has a flexible general ledger account allowing multiple control accounts to be created; a feature normally associated with more expensive products. This highlights one of Omni's strengths - being a 'text book' approach to implementing an accounting solution; so much so that it lends itself to becoming standard software for basic accounting courses. As Omni Essential is free to use, a good first level accounting text book would make an excellent companion. The strength then is that it starts to empower business users who would normally not give a second thought to calling in an accountant.
But don't be deceived because it is 'entry level' - Omni is deceptively powerful. Running as a server service (which it does) the SQL data can happily be shared with any number of users; it is simply a matter of purchasing the features you require either individually or in cost effective bundles. This means that the free program you can run your business with now really will grow with your company (when in five years time you have 15 users or more) - and you will only have spent 10% of the cost of a better known product!
For those wishing to do more with Omni Accounts, EasySoft produce an ODBC driver allowing Omni data to be used in 'old favourites' such as Microsoft Excel and Access allowing reporting and the integration of the business data into other applications.
Omni is a serious business accounting product, it gets on with the job at a price that end-users cannot ignore - a refreshing change in today's accounting software market. "
